September 2019

Dear Fellow Harvard Alumni:

Susan and I have survived Hurricane Dorian and all is well in sunny Vero Beach.  I’m sure many of you are finalizing your annual migration south to Vero.

This letter is intended to get you excited about the upcoming season’s events that your Harvard Club of Vero Beach has planned for you.  Please get your calendars out, or IPhone, and save the following dates.  We will use email as our primary means of communicating with you.  Also, please check out our website at www.HarvardClubofVeroBeach.com  The website will have an up to date calendar of events, photos of past events, links to many other Harvard sites, and much more useful information.

Our club administrator, Vicki Wilburn, will again assist us with the various events and administrative duties that are required.  Please don’t hesitate to contact Vicki with questions or if you need assistance with anything Club related.  Her contact info is 772-321-7738, or email at vickiwilburn81@hotmail.com.  That information is also on the website.

Before we list the upcoming calendar of events, I would like to announce that we have three St. Ed’s graduating seniors who have been granted admission to Harvard’s incoming class of 2023.  Congratulations to Katherine Alarte, Omar Shareef, and Ivor Zimmerman.

So, here is our calendar of events as it stands right now.  Expect some tweaking as things get closer.

Welcome Back Party - Tuesday, November 12, 2019    5:30-7:30

This gala is not to be missed.  This year the party will be held at the home of Byron and Nancy Sugahara in John’s Island.   It will offer a wonderful venue to see old friends and meet some new Harvard friends.  An open bar with catered heavy appetizers will be provided.  Like all our events, you can sign up online on our website www.HarvardClubofVeroBeach.com or call or email Vicki at 772-321-7738 or vickiwilburn81@hotmail.com.

Harvard/Yale Football Game - Saturday, November 23, 2019  11:30 (12:00 Kickoff) at Quail’s The Pointe

Come cheer on the Crimson and enjoy a terrific “tail gate” luncheon buffet with an ice cream bar at halftime.  This year’s game is the 136th between Harvard and Yale.  What better way to enjoy a fall afternoon.

HYP Annual Golf Outing - Monday, January 27, 2020 at Bent Pine Country Club - 12:00 lunch with a 1:00 shotgun start

Yale has won the last two years so we need to regain the title.  Drinks and snacks to follow play with trophy presentation.

All Ivy Party - Wednesday, February 12, 2020 - Riomar Beach Club - 5:30- 7:30

Mix and mingle with 7 other Vero Ivy School Alumni.  A great party with lots of appetizers and a cash bar.  Be sure to wear your Crimson.  This is the 4th annual All Ivy party and is always great fun.

Breakfast on the Porch - Quail River Club

We are still working out the details for these very popular events.  We plan on holding at least 4 breakfast events through the winter season, with each one hosting a distinguished speaker at breakfast on the porch starting at 8:00 AM.  We have been doing this for the last few years and it has been a great success.  More to follow.  Look for emails and also watch our website.

Cocktails and Dinner with Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital’s President, Dr. Greg Rosencrance - Thursday, March 26, 2020 - 5:00 - 8:30 at Riomar Country Club.

The Cleveland Clinic has been operating our Indian River Hospital for about one year.  We are delighted to have the Hospital’s President, Dr. Greg Rosencrance, share his thoughts and experience after his first year on the job.  We are joint venturing this event with the Riomar Country Club.

Couples Mixed 9 & Dine - Thursday, April 7, 2020 at Riomar Country Club-3:30 shotgun start.

This has always been a fun social event.  The Riomar golf course is spectacular with 7 holes offering ocean views.  Cocktails and dinner fill follow.  If you are not interested in the golf, please join us for cocktails and dinner.  We will also invite the other Ivy’s to join us.

So, as you can see, we have planned an exciting, informative and fun season of events.  We encourage each of you to mark your calendars and get online at www.HarvardClubofVeroBeach.com to reserve the events that interest you.

We also encourage you to join the Harvard Club of Vero Beach for an annual cost of $75.  This can also be done online.  The $75 helps support your Club’s various administrative costs (approximately $3000//year).

I am looking forward to seeing you at our opening Welcome Back Party on November 12th, as well as the other terrific events we have planned for you.

All the Best,

Dale Hamilton
